The RTP Park project began in 2007 with the acquisition of 25 acres from the Research Triangle Park Foundation. Original concepts for the facility included baseball fields and related amenities. Since 2007 the Town athletic programs has a greater demand for cricket pitches rather than baseball fields. In 2012 Town Council approved a concept plan that included a regulation sized cricket pitch, restroom and maintenance buildings, picnic shelter, tennis courts and a playground. Construction design of the project has been completed and construction is anticipated to begin in the Fall of 2013. Construction will take 12 months.
