Killed in the Line of Duty, May 22, 1997

Sgt. Earl Godwin served the Town of Morrisville with love, honor, pride and integrity. He gave his life protecting the people of the Town he loved, and doing the job he loved. Sgt. Godwin will be in our hearts forever.

On Thursday, May 22, 1997, Sergeant Godwin was killed in an accident while responding to a man with a gun call at a limousine service company on NC 54. While en-route, another vehicle broadsided his Range Rover police vehicle at the intersection of McCrimmon Parkway and Church Street, causing it to roll over and eject him from the vehicle, killing him.
